DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has officially launched the Dubai Mallathon.

It is an inclusive fitness initiative that transforms the city’s shopping malls into indoor health tracks throughout the month of August.

The community-focused campaign is part of Dubai’s broader vision to promote public health by encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to integrate daily physical activity into their routines, especially during the summer months. The morning events will take place daily from 7:00am to 10:00am between 1 and 31 August.

Malls as tracks

Seven major malls across Dubai have been selected to host the initiative: Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, Springs Souk, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, and Dubai Marina Mall. These locations will offer designated walking and running paths, allowing participants to exercise in safe, climate-controlled environments.

By reimagining familiar public spaces as health zones, the initiative supports Dubai’s commitment to high living standards, as outlined in the Dubai Social Agenda 33, the Year of Community, and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33.

Strategic vision

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasised that the initiative reflects Dubai’s ambition to become a global leader in wellbeing by embedding fitness into the fabric of daily life.

“With the Dubai Mallathon, we’re turning familiar spaces into places that inspire movement, connection, and better habits,” he said. “This reflects our broader commitment to placing people and families at the heart of our development plans.”

He urged all members of the public to participate, describing it as a “simple and accessible” way to improve health, build connections, and contribute to a shared goal. “Every step you take moves us closer towards a healthier Dubai,” he added. “This is a shared journey. We are all partners in transforming our city into the world’s best place to live, work, and visit.”

Inclusive participation

Held in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, Dubai Mallathon is open to all segments of society—including children, senior citizens, youth, residents, and mall employees. The initiative also features motivational and supportive elements, such as fitness-tracking systems, guided stretching, wellness awareness stations, and areas dedicated for children.

The programme ‘Walk for Better Health,’ organised by the Community Development Authority, will run in parallel to further engage community groups and spread awareness about maintaining an active lifestyle.

By leveraging the city’s extensive indoor infrastructure, the initiative also addresses the challenge of Dubai’s intense summer climate. The air-conditioned spaces within malls provide a comfortable and accessible alternative to outdoor exercise, ensuring year-round fitness opportunities for the community.

Free registration and offers

Registration is free via the official website www.dubaimallathon.ae. Upon enrolling, participants will receive a digital card confirming their entry into the initiative.

In addition to fitness activities, Dubai Mallathon has partnered with restaurants and retailers to offer special promotions that support a healthy lifestyle. These include discounts and packages aligned with the goals of improved nutrition, balanced living, and sustainable wellness habits.
